Setting up and signing into a random account

Hello everyone,

Apparently, when I got my hands on the latest iPhone 7 Plus, during the setup process, I was asked to log in for the Apple ID with the account ******. Is this a problem in my phone? What exactly is going on here?

Yours sincerely,

Hi rohitkv15,

Congratulations on your new iPhone 7 Plus! I understand that while setting it up, you've been prompted to sign into an Apple ID that you don't recognize. I know it's important to understand the configuration of your iPhone, so I'm happy to help.

Check out step 5 of this article:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

When asked, sign in to your Apple ID account to restore your apps and purchases (If you've purchased iTunes or App Store content using multiple Apple IDs, you'll be asked to sign in to each). If you can’t remember your password, you can tap Skip this Step and sign in later.

This means that when you're restoring your data, in order to download the content that was previously on your device, you'll need the Apple IDs that were used to download it originally. If at any point you synced another user's content to your iPhone or used a different Apple ID to download content, you'll need to authenticate that account again.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!
